132 years ago, two courageous women spoke up for those in our town who needed help, leading a community effort that would bring much-needed assistance to those in need. Friends listened and acted. Simple gestures, magnified by their sharing of them, led to decades of safety: a home for those who would otherwise be without comfort.

When it comes to life at The Hickman, one group of employees is the true heartbeat of the community: the Resident Services team. Those who work in Resident Services are highly trained, dedicated to the residents, and work hard to ensure that the residents are healthy, safe, and happy.

Gratitude. It’s one of those things that strike our hearts a little more this time of year. Of course, having an entire holiday devoted to giving thanks doesn’t hurt. It’s more than that, though. As we see each year drawing to a close, we begin reflecting on where the years have brought us, how the ups and downs and everything in between have shaped who we are and how we see the world.

The topics that our team members choose to discuss during this time can vary greatly – from appreciating a colleague's support to celebrating the successful completion of a work project, relishing a delightful weekend event, or receiving positive news about a medical test.

I have a confession. I’m not much of a TV person. It’s not that I don’t enjoy it from time to time. It’s just that it takes such an exorbitant number of steps on our “smart” TV actually to get to a show. It can be exhausting.
