Our Rich History

Nestled in the heart of West Chester, The Hickman is far more than a place to live. Founded in 1891 by two Quaker women, Sally Sharpless and Lydia Hall, The Hickman was established as a home for aging, financially challenged, single women. Over more than a century, it has thoughtfully evolved into a full-service personal care community that remains deeply rooted in its original mission.
