Centenarian Spotlight: Jane Geeting at 100
As we round out our Centenarian Spotlight Series, we are proud to introduce Ms. Jane Geeting, a vibrant member of The Hickman community who recently celebrated her 100th birthday.
Jane’s life is a testament to lifelong learning, resilience, and a fearless embrace of change. Her story—like the woman herself—is full of warmth, creativity, and quiet strength.
An Early Spark: Education, Service & Determination
Born on May 17, 1925, in Pittsburgh, PA, Jane pursued a life of purpose from an early age. After graduating high school, she earned her B.A. from Chatham College, followed by a Master’s degree in Elementary and Secondary Education from the University of Pittsburgh.
During World War II, Jane contributed to the war effort by serving as a nurse’s aide and knitting garments for Bundles for Britain, a humanitarian relief program that supported British citizens.
Teaching with Purpose—and Breaking the Mold
In the 1950s and ’60s, when most women stayed home, Jane forged her own path. As the only working mother in her neighborhood, she built a career in education—becoming a quiet trailblazer for women and students alike.
Jane taught for 25 years in the Churchill Area School District, beginning her career in radio PR and writing before returning to her true calling: the classroom. After retiring, she continued teaching creative writing at Glendale Community College in Arizona and served as a docent at a local art museum.
Creativity, Conversation, and Curiosity at 100
Jane finds joy in reading, poetry, knitting, and meaningful conversations. She believes in the transformative power of education and travel, and her global explorations have broadened her worldview and deepened her appreciation for humanity.
Her guiding mottos—“Que sera, sera” and “When one door closes, another opens”—have carried her through a century filled with adventure, growth, and grace.
Today, Jane continues to inspire her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who know her.
