The Hickman Welcomes U.S. Representative Chrissy Houlahan

September 9, 2025

On September 9, 2025, The Hickman was honored to welcome U.S. Representative Chrissy Houlahan to our West Chester campus. Her visit provided a meaningful opportunity to highlight the important role personal care communities play in supporting older adults while also giving residents and leadership the chance to share their experiences directly with a federal policymaker.

During her time at The Hickman, Representative Houlahan toured our personal care community, where she observed residents engaged in daily wellness and exercise programming. She took time to meet individually with residents, listen to their stories, and speak with constituents about issues impacting senior living today. These conversations reflected the importance of advocacy and access, and of ensuring that older adults and their families have choices when planning for care and housing needs.

Executive Director Toni Kelly and members of The Hickman leadership team shared insights into what makes The Hickman unique, a compassionate, community-centered home that has served older adults for more than 134 years. The visit reinforced the value of collaboration between community providers and elected officials working toward solutions that support Pennsylvania seniors.

A Sweet Ending to a Meaningful Visit

The visit concluded on a warm and memorable note. Rodney Sykes, The Hickman’s Director of Culinary and Nutritional Services, sent Representative Houlahan and her team off with a handcrafted treat — delicious homemade strawberry cupcakes prepared with care.

Moments like these reflect what The Hickman is all about: connection, hospitality, and community. We are grateful for the opportunity to host Representative Houlahan, share the voices of our residents, and continue conversations that help shape the future of senior living in Pennsylvania.
