In the heart of West Chester, Pennsylvania, an annual event has been rockin’ the town, and it’s not your typical fundraiser. The Hickman Friends Senior Community has been taking the concept of fundraising and infusing it with a whole lot of rock and roll. Our annual Rock-A-Thon event is gearing up for its second year, and it promises to be even more spectacular than the first. But it’s not just about the music; it’s about rocking for a cause and supporting The Hickman’s cherished residents.
Last year marked a milestone for The Hickman as they hosted their inaugural Rock-A-Thon. Five enthusiastic teams, sponsored by generous patrons and supported by pledges, gathered on the front porch of the Anna T. Jeanes building. For eight continuous hours, residents, staff members, and board members rocked to the rhythm of the music provided by local area music artists.
Stewardship is a fundamental core value at The Hickman, firmly grounded in the principles of the Religious Society of Friends: integrity, respect, equality, and service among them. These values guide The Hickman to “that of God” within every individual, fostering an environment that ensures residents have a secure and nurturing home. Resources that empower our residents to thrive and actively participate in a vibrant community for as long as their health permits.
Anticipation is building as The Hickman prepares for its 2nd Annual Rock-A-Thon, set for Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on The Hickman patio. This year’s Rock-A-Thon guarantees an even more enjoyable experience with heightened community engagement, including the participation of West Chester Friends School students. Notably, we’re excited to welcome PA House Representative Chris Pielli, who will rock with The Hickman teams. And that’s not all; we have a fantastic lineup of musicians, including Bill Hake from the renowned music duo Hake and Jarema!
The event invites teams of up to four members to participate, channel their favorite rock bands with creative team names and costumes and bring decorated rocking chairs. The entry fee to join the Rock-A-Thon is $100, which allows participants to participate in a day filled with music, games, contests, and camaraderie. In addition to the entry fee, teams are encouraged to obtain pledges, further contributing to the fundraising effort. The deadline for submitting pledges is Tuesday, October 17, 2023. Acceptable payments for pledges include checks, debit or credit cards via PayPal, and checks payable to The Hickman.
