We are pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Karsten as The Hickman’s new executive director. Jen will join us on Thursday, September 5th.
Jen was selected after a national search and comes to The Hickman uniquely qualified for this role. A life-long Quaker, she joins us after serving as the executive director of Pendle Hill, a Quaker study and retreat center, since 2011. During her tenure at Pendle Hill, she led the organization through a range of strategic initiatives including a campus master planning process, a capital campaign and a financial repositioning.
Jen’s passion for senior care has developed over several years through observation of both the needs of older adults and the potential in the industry. Her first visit to the Hickman was 15 years ago and she has since volunteered in, visited, and supported staff of similar organizations in the region, learning about the senior living industry along the way. She is drawn to The Hickman’s history, current status, and its continued commitment to a mission of affordability and accessibility.
We want to again express our appreciation to our current executive director, Pamela Leland, for her service to our community since her appointment in 2013. Pam will continue in her position until Jen’s arrival in September and will be available to Jen to ensure a smooth transition.
There will be various opportunities to meet Jen soon after she joins us in September. You will hear more about these as the date of her arrival nears. We all look forward to welcoming her to our community.
