Planned Gifts: Discover the Benefits of Giving Wisely

Types and Definitions of Planned Gifts

Planned Giving is giving that has a long-term impact, requires thoughtful planning, and is usually drawn from the donors’ assets (savings) rather than from current disposable income.

Planned Giving is the integration of sound personal, financial and estate planning concepts with the individual donor's plans for lifetime legacy giving that reflects a donor’s commitment and priorities to a specific cause or mission. Some gift arrangements can include special donor tax advantages, life income to donor, and other special satisfactions that help improve estate plans.

The most common forms of Planned Gifts are:

Bequests:

A transfer by will of personal property such as cash, securities, or other tangible assets. You may designate your bequest to a specific program area or interest. A conversation with your financial advisor and the Development Director at The Hickman is the best way to achieve your giving goals.

Gift Annuities:

A contract between a donor and a charity wherein the donor transfers funds to the charity in exchange for the charity’s promise to pay the donor a fixed income for life or for some other mutually agreed upon period. Donors may defer the right to income for a period of years. Gift annuities may take on several forms and interest rates increase with age, making them a prudent – as well as charitable – way to support The Hickman.

Planned gifts are administered for The Hickman through Friends Fiduciary Corporation. Living Legacy Circle Members as of December, 2009

Planned Gifts can be very useful tools for achieving financial goals while creating a personal legacy. The Hickman established the Living Legacy Circle in 2003 to recognize the women and men who have established Charitable Gift Annuities, Bequests, Trusts or other real estate gifts to benefit The Hickman.

Following is a list of members of the Living Legacy Circle. Each year, members are invited to The Hickman for a special recognition luncheon to honor their commitment to the Hickman Mission. We would be pleased to include you in this gathering.

If you have named The Hickman in a gift annuity, your will or other plan and have not yet notified us, please contact Pam Costanzi, Development Director, at 484-760-6416 or at pcostanzi@thehickman.org so we can invite you to the annual Living Legacy Luncheon and recognize your gift!
