All gifts are deductible as provided by law. For income tax purposes, a gift is counted in the calendar year in which it is given, and any payments toward a pledge are deductible in the calendar year that they are made.

Contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations enable us to undertake essential capital improvements on our beautiful and historic campus. Additionally, with donor support, we are able to create & enhance vital programs and activities.
Mission Statement: Located in the heart of West Chester, Pennsylvania and guided by Quaker principles that value all life and welcome diversity, The Hickman offers individualized care allowing older adults the opportunity to enjoy a productive life and to explore the richness of all of life’s possibilities.

You May Direct Gifts toward:

The Hickman Resident Assistance Fund

The Hickman is home for our residents, and we are committed to ensuring that no one must leave due to financial reasons. This mission can be challenging as the needs of our residents increase as they age along with the costs and resources required to provide care.

Please Consider Supporting The Hickman through:

1. United Way Donor Choice

Many United Way organizations allow donors the flexibility and discretion to direct their gifts to specific charitable organizations. When you select The Hickman, you have the added benefit of participating in the United Way Campaign while supporting our people and programs.

Simply ask your workplace campaign representative for Donor Choice information and complete the necessary designation forms. It is especially helpful if you send a copy to the Development Office (400 N. Walnut Street, West Chester, PA, 19380) for our records.

If you participate in the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania Campaign, our Donor Choice number is #10572. We are listed by our full name – The Hickman Friends Senior Community of West Chester.

2. Securities

Contributions of long-term appreciated securities give you double benefits: a charitable deduction for the full present fair market value, and no tax on the appreciation. Should the securities you wish to contribute have a loss, consider selling them and donating the proceeds which will allow you to recognize the loss deduction. In either case, please consult your tax or financial advisor to be sure you are making the wisest selection.

3. Tangible Personal Property or Gifts-in-Kind

Art objects, antiques and other in-kind gifts are tangible personal property and are accepted on a case-by-case basis in consultation with the Director of Advancement. Their value as a tax deduction will be based upon IRS regulations.

4. IRA Charitable Rollover

If you are looking for a way to offset income from a required distribution from your traditional IRA, consider an IRA Charitable Rollover. The Hickman is a qualified nonprofit charitable organization, so your donation can benefit you tax-wise, while supporting the mission of The Hickman. For more information, please contact fundraising@thehickman.org.

5. Real Estate

Whether your property has increased or decreased in value, it can be given with substantial benefit to both the donor and The Hickman. There are many ways to make a gift of property including an outright gift, a retained life estate, making a bargain sale, gifting property by will, or using property to fund a charitable remainder trust. These gifts are accepted on a case-by-case basis in consultation with the Director of Advancement and your financial advisor.

6. Life Insurance Policies

The gift of a life insurance policy is an ideal way to fulfill your charitable intentions. A gift of life insurance does not reduce your income, and you may also receive significant income tax reductions.

7. Planned Gifts

Planned Giving has long-term impact, requires thoughtful planning, and is usually drawn from the donor’s assets (savings) rather than from current disposable income. It is the integration of sound personal, financial, and estate planning concepts with the individual donor’s plans for lifetime legacy giving that reflects a commitment to a specific cause or mission. Some gift arrangements can include special donor tax advantages, life income to the donor, and other special satisfactions that help improve estate plans.

The most common forms of Planned Gifts include:

Bequests:
A transfer by will of personal property such as cash, securities, or other tangible assets. You may designate your bequest to a specific program area or interest. A conversation with your financial adviser and The Hickman’s Director of Advancement is the best way to achieve your giving goals.

Gift Annuities:
A gift annuity is a contract between a donor and a charity wherein the donor transfers funds to the charity in exchange for the charity’s promise to pay the donor a fixed income for life or some other mutually agreed upon period. Donors may defer the right to income for years. Gift annuities may take on several forms, and interest rates increase with age, making them a prudent and charitable way to support The Hickman.

Planned gifts are administered for The Hickman through Friends Fiduciary Corporation. For more information on Planned Gifts and/or to receive a confidential charitable gift annuity illustration, please visit the Friends Fiduciary website at www.friendsfiduciary.org or email the Advancement Department at fundraising@thehickman.org.

The Hickman is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, which means all gifts are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Employer Identification Number:

23-1352144.  Gifts of all sizes are gratefully accepted.
