Sherry McVickar

Yes, the rumors about my manners are true: I DID grow up in a barn! Which is undoubtedly the reason I have so much compassion for them. I get their psychic vibes, I love their shapes, I feel for their endangered plight. My heartstrings and - from the record number of sales of my paintings - many heartstrings are pulled by our remaining stone, bank, swiss, cantilevered forebay, ancient and historic Pennsylvania barns. These historic farm buildings are built to be all-purpose: every part is used but the squeal (farm joke). Their geometric and architectural proportions are comforting; the materials they are made of come directly from the earth and have her warmth. With all my voluminous education (Friends’ Central School, Sarah Lawrence College, California College of Arts and Crafts, and The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts) supporting me, I wish to portray, protect, and preserve their spirit in hopes that in so doing I may have a small part in ensuring their continued existence. I thank you in advance for YOUR help in this endeavor.

Sherry’s work has been shown in numerous galleries and cafes in the area. Last fall, she had her first solo show at Chester County Art Association. In September, she will become the first artist in Chester County to have a solo show in a funeral home – Founds Funeral Home on High Street. Her table will be on display there during the show.

Sherry’s table this year depicts several of her favorite barns in Chester County. You can see more of her work at www. BARNLADY.net

Sherry McVickar is a first year Art of Caring artist!
