Bradbury Mattes

Bradbury Mattes is a fine artist who resides in West Chester, Pennsylvania. After receiving his B. A. from Marlboro College, Vermont, he was classically trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Accomplished in many media, including figure sculpture, abstract metal sculpture, watercolor, collage and charcoal drawing, he has primarily focused on etching and oil painting in his current work. Recent exhibitions include Immaculata, Audubon, Squirrel Gallery, Sunset Hill Gallery, Historic Sugartown and many more.

The top of Bradbury’s bench is based on a Peter Max piece entitled “The Different Drummer.” The Peter Max motif was done in spray paint, involving dozens of hand-cut stencils. The bottom panel is also an interpretation of fragments of Max’s work, as is one outer-side panel. The other outer-side panel, the two inner-side panels and the two thin panels under the top were wholly designed by Mattes. The “MMX” on the thin panels is a nod to Max as well as the year, 2010.

This is Bradbury’s second year as an Art of Caring Artist!
