Creative juices are flowing in The Hickman Activities Center.
At the heart of daily life at The Hickman is our vibrant and diverse resident activities program. The Hickman’s Activity Department is staffed by a full-time Community Recreation Coordinator and a full time Activities Coordinator who provide a daily agenda of recreational programs based upon individual needs, interests and capabilities. The purpose of activity programming is to help residents develop and use their leisure in ways that enhance their health, independence and well being.

To meet the variety of resident needs, activity programs include large groups, small groups and individual activities. Programs include social and recreational groups, arts and crafts, community activities, music, and community outings, worship services and special events.
Families are encouraged to take part in daily activities, to participate in family nights throughout the year and inform Activity staff of any special needs or preferences their loved ones may have. Church groups, community organizations and committed individuals routinely volunteer their services to the Activities Department. The Hickman also has a very active Resident Council who gives feedback to staff on many issues such as: the grounds of the building, the décor, activities, meal planning, transportation issues, etc. Residents have the opportunity to serve on a number of committees focused on campus life as well as broader issues.
Physical activity is good for people at any age! The Hickman has partnered with Ageless Exercise to offer a variety of group exercise programs sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation five days weekly.
The Hickman also offers weekly intergenerational programs with the West Chester Friends School with whom we share our campus. The many benefits of intergenerational interaction are enjoyed by our residents as well as the fifth grade classes that come every week. Special events are done with the other grades throughout the year. The YMCA and other local schools will come to The Hickman as well.
